Getting Greener
We are working together with our tenants to certify 1670 Broadway as a Leader in Energy and Environment Design for Existing Building (LEED-EB). As part of this process we are making the changes and improvements to get ‘’Greener’’ every day.
LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives buildings owners and operators the tools to have an impact on their building performance.
LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building meets the highest performance sustainability based on five key areas of human and environmental health:
- Sustainable site development.
- Water savings.
- Energy efficiency.
- Materials section
- Indoor environmental quality.
This is an overview of what the building is doing to get “greener” every day:
- Building wide recycle program has been converted from simply paper program to any type of paper, cans, plastics rated 1-7, cardboard and more. We have diverted an average of 40% of trash into recycling each month. -
- Old light bulbs are now recycled. By properly disposing of our old bulbs the mercury in the florescent lamps is now diverted from the landfill. -
- Recycle Batteries -
- Converting to recycled content toilet paper and paper towels in the restrooms, and also going to start using the coreless toilet paper rolls, these rolls contain twice the amount of product and no wasteful cardboard core. -
- Our building is cleaned with green sealed cleaning products.
Implementation of low-or no-cost strategies for sustainable performance by collaborating with the service providers and product manufacturers already working in the building. Most strategies significantly reduce operational costs, and improve water and energy use. -
- Upgraded building equipment to help ensure that it only runs when needed. -
- Installed a new white membrane roof, this helps deflect solar heat gain into the building through the roof which saves energy. -
- Replaced old toilets with water efficient toilets. -
- Additional bike racks installed in the garage. -
- And more…
What can you do?
- Participate in our building wide recycling program, Look for the recycling containers on every floor. -
- Bring us your batteries, there is a container in the management office for battery recycling. -
- Take the Light Rail / Carpool / Walk to work, we are blocks away from the Downtown Light Rail station. -
